Plumbing Merit Badge

I got Plumbing Merit Badge over 40 years ago. I don’t recall facing a stuck single handle valve.

While trying to fix the balky handle on our Moen bathroom faucet, I broke the stub on the water control valve that’s connected to the handle. Mineral deposits from our water had built up inside the handle, effectively welding the plastic to the brass.

We weren’t so hot on the design of this particular faucet, so instead of replacing the valve, we decided to replace the entire faucet.

We opted for the high tech American Standard Monterrey Centerset Gooseneck Lavatory Faucet with paddle handles for keeping our hands clean when we wash up for surgery. I jury rigged a screw and a piece of wood for a handle for the old faucet while we waited for our PlumberSurplus.com delivery.

Coincidentally, Robert’s working on HIS Plumbing Merit Badge, too!

Last Mon. (Dec. 17), just a couple of days before our outing to Spokane, the handle of the Moen tap in my bathroom broke. Great timing, as Rob couldn’t talk to Moen (to activate the “lifetime warranty”) until Tues. and it takes 5 business days to ship the parts, and, now it’s Christmas shipping complications and “tripping time” before the parts will be in and/or Rob will be able to reinstall all the right stuff! So, too, am I working with a jury rigged faucet in my sink.

That’s TWO things, now, that you’re doing and we’re thinking of doing!

By the way, Moen was VERY helpful, Rob said, and will be shipping all kinds of parts and pieces, even although he identified clearly that he needed only “this or that”. But, I guess maybe you wanted a particular new style faucet, anyway?
